What is the meaning of the word Masjid ( Sai's Dwarkamayi )? Late Shri KB Gavankar in his book " SHILADHI " explains : Masjid means MA...........SIJ.......DA................Shivpad , bestower of emancipation at the lotus feet of " LORD SHIVA".When Nana Chandorkar 1st arrived in Shiridi in 1892 & became devoted to SHRI SAI , he was pained at the dilapidated condition of the Masjid & felt the urgent need to renovate it & once when he talked to Bhagat Mhalsa
about it SHRI SAI called the latter & asked what Nana told him.Mhalsa said the truth whereupon SHRI SAI said " DO WE NEED THE NEW MASJID OR THIS IS ITSELS GOOD "? Bhagat replied either would do. Then Bhagat called Nanasaheb & broke a coconut in SHRI SAI's presence but the repair work was often stalled by SHRI SAI. However it was completed by where SAI used to sit & where HIS portrait is now kept . In 1951 the Shiridi Sansthan strengthed it further . More renovations were done in 1998 .

Every devotee tries to visualize How Baba looked like. They try to see how Dwarakamai, Chavadi looked like when Baba walked on the soil of Shirdi. Are we able to visit Baba back in his times when we visit Shirdi now?
