When the news
spread there were different reactions from many devotees across the globe. Few
felt offended and burnt effigies of Shankaracharya, few went on to protest in
media. It was a disturbed sleep for me and a thought why all this had to happen
whatever the reason may have been it was disturbing to the traditional staunch
devotees of Baba for it may have wavered their trust and faith in Him for a
moment.
In all the
confusion and discussions amongst the devotees I found one dedicated true
devotee who was not following Baba but was following the preaching’s of Baba by
doing so he made himself a living Baba. It made me realize only actions make us
Baba devotee and does Shri Sainath need our help to defend Him? All this may be
His doing to wake us up to the practices we have been following until now.
A temple built for
Sainath becomes a temple in the real sense only when it starts serving the sick
and feeding the hungry apart from giving them the divine comfort feeling of
visiting a holy abode of Baba.
One Baba devotee
asked me is he your uncle? Why you mention Pudur temple which is around 70 kms
from Hyderabad and Dr Narayana in your posts many times.
I have not taken effort to visit many Baba temples and even if I do the day to
day working of temple is not known. I had the good fortune to come across Dr
Narayana a dedicated staunch devotee of Baba
The temple was
constructed mainly to do serve to the needy people in and around the temple
which consists mainly of poor people and farm labour.
A medical camp is
organised every Thursday and the specialist doctors in the field of Dentistry, Ophthalmology,
General Medicine, Gynaecology etc are present in the temple premises.. About
400 to 500 people attend the camp especially for Ophthalmology and Dentistry.
Cataract operation is done on about 20 persons every week. Those patients who
have other serious problems are referred to various hospitals in Hyderabad. The patients are picked up from the
temple and dropped in the hospitals and once the treatment is over they are dropped
back. in the temple and the patients go to their respective villages from there.
The charge for consultation is meagre rs.10 and any hospitalization is taken
care by the temple.
As there is huge
rush for ophthalmology department, the temple decided to have dedicated ophthalmology
department for six days a week.
Many patients from
surrounding villages come from far off places, to consult and they enjoy the
lunch provided by the temple. This system of providing lunch makes the villager
come to the temple relaxed without bothering about their family’s food. Hundreds
of devotee’s doctors and visitors are fed from the same kitchen making all feel
one as family. So simple meal of Rice, Dal, Sabji, butter milk and sweet is
served to the devotees. About 600 to 800
people take their meals.
The hospital is
totally eco friendly having water harvesting pit, Goshala (cow shed) for cows
and gas plant to be used for cooking. Cow milk is used for preparing butter
milk for the patients, cow dung is used for preparing vermin compost for being
used in the garden which supplies grass and flowers to the animals and the
temple.
The temple is also
home to dogs which frequent the temple and watch over the temple in the nights.
The temple is home to about 4 dogs and they regularly visit the temple during
the Arati times. Solar panels are also used and slowly being increased as per
need.
Come Rain, Sun or
any disturbance the show is going on for the last 20 years and will continue to
do so.
