Tribute to Shri ramdas swami

Ramdas swami was born in a Deshastha Rugvedi Bramhan family to Suryaji and Ranubai Thosar in Jamb in Jalna distict of maharashtra on Ram Navmi(the birth festival of lord Rama) 1530 according to shaliwahan calender.His given name was Narayan.As a child Ramdas showed an inclination towards metaphysical contemplation and religion.When Ramdas was eight his father died and when he was eighteen his mother arranged his marriage.However he wanted to pursue a monastic life.He ran away in the middle of the marriage ceremony ,before the marriage vows were exchanged.Swami ramdas didn't wanted to get entangled in the bonds of maya and wanted to seek self realization.At the age of 24 he took the name Ramdas meaning servant of lord Rama an incarnation of god.Ramdas practised physical yoga as well as meditation.Ramdas Swami was a gifted composer.

                                                                                                                       Shri Ramdas swami was the spiritual guru of chhatrapati shivaji maharaj.on one occasion Ramdas swami told shivaji maharaj to cut a stone and to everybody surprise there came a frog out of the stone.By this instance shri Ramdas swami demonstrates that it is not the king but the god Almighty that takes care of everything.Some of the literary works by swami Ramdas were shri manache shlok and shrimat Dasbodh.Swami ramdas died in the year 1682 in Sajjangad.
